Natural Remedies for Restless Leg Syndrome and Periodic Limb Movement

Medicine did not take it away, Only covered up the syptoms

I remember when I first started getting Restless Legs. My then boyfriend would be sleeping over and I would be in the corner, in the dark, running like a mad man trying to get my legs tired enough so I could go to sleep!

I tried all sorts of things, scolding hot baths that would make my skin super red, still no relief. Doing all sorts of things to try and tire my legs. They never seemed to bother me during the day?

After what seemed like months of not having a night’s sleep, starting to see shadows and trails when turning my head I, decided to go to the doctors. It which was not an easy thing for me to do, since I had no insurance at the time. But my lack of sleep won out!

So I went to the doctor and told him my “symptoms”. I mean, how do you describe Restless Leg Syndrome? There are plenty of descriptions today that pretty much nail it, but at this time, about oh say 20 years ago, it was hardly heard about, and especially by the doctor I went to see. He proceeded to look at me like I had some “other” kind of problem. Gave me a prescription for anti-depressants and a referral to a physiatrist?! Since this time, I know that people have been given anti-depressants and it has helped some. But this was at a time where anti-depressants where just starting to gain attention AND the doctor gave me a referral to a physiatrist. I mean he didn’t suggest it, he wrote it out like a prescription or something and put the physiatrist name on it and everything. This has been one of the main reasons I don’t really like and/or trust doctors, but that is a struggle within my own self, I admit.

The next doctor I went to, a number of years later, I did have insurance. I went for another reason though. The doctor looked at my chart and asked what I was doing for my Restless Leg Syndrome. I said I was taking a drug that is by prescription only, in the US, or at least at the time. I was getting it from a source in Mexico. I was honest and told him what I had been taking, expecting him to question me as to where I was getting it. He didn’t bat an eye or even look up from the file and said “Oh no, we are trying to bane that drug in the United States, but here, let me prescribe something we have been giving to our Parkinson’s patience and it has been great in helping people with RLS. We still don’t know what causes it, but this should help you to sleep anyway”. And that was that! He has been, to this day, my favorite medical doctor. He has long been retired, but he was as good as they get in an HMO. I trusted him totally and took the medication without question. Later I learned it was an anti-anxiety drug, which I didn’t think was much better than and anti-depressant! So, on the new hunt I went. I tried all sorts of things. I must admit, acupuncture helped immensely, but like medications, would only last so long, and then I would need to go back. I didn’t mind going, it was really relaxing, but my insurance wouldn’t pay for it and it was getting expensive, and I could no longer afford to keep going. Unfortunately the pills where much more affordable, as opposed to the eastern way, without medicine.

Acupunture helped

What could I do at home to help myself?

I came across an acupuncturist that was highly recommended by many people, so I went to him, to see what he could do. I think the best thing he did for me was to put me on iron for people that have anemia, like I did. Later, I found this product and was able to continue taking supplements that worked just as well as the one given to me by the acupuncturist, and I didn’t have to spend the money on visits so often. That really helped!!!

No more kicking my Husband

Since then I have come across a product that has really made life easier, with rested nights and no more kicking my , now, husband in the back with my Automatic limb Movement, that sometimes accompanies Restless Leg Syndrome. Now we both have a good night’s sleep, Ahhhhhhhh!
